Eris was my first saluki and came to live with me in March 1999, while I was still in graduate school in Columbia, SC. Eris was everything I wanted in a saluki, except at the time I wished she would lie by my computer while I was working on my thesis. She didn't do that then, but has since taken up that habit, which in turn got her accidentally run into by a chair a few times.

The first two years I had Eris we lure coursed occasionally. She finished her JC at SCOA Nationals in 1999, just a few months after I got her. I tried to pre-cert her for ASFA several times but she would never run a complete course. She occasionally ran short practice runs, the few times I coursed her niece and nephew.

Nothing can describe how special Eris was to me. She was my great love, and the sweetest and most stubborn saluki I know. She was a total food hog, who could always be moved from any position by rattling a food box. Mari probably considered Eris her best buddy, but Eris really seemed to be able to take or leave the other grown salukis, though she most definitely did not want anything to do with baby Candy and Shaft when the visited!

Eris suffered from arthritis, which badly affected her rear legs and as she got older, she was no longer sound. She spent the last year of her life at our new house and dealt with the addition of her new grand-niece Flo. The steps out to the back yard proved to be a problem, but once in the yard she loved to "stomp" around and explore.

Eris passed away on December 7, 2007, two months shy of her 15th birthday.
